Mammoth Hot Spring Terraces by Fort Photo

Mammoth Hot Spring Terraces

Much better when Viewed Large on Black!

A view from what I believe is known as the Main Terrace. I couldn't have asked for better clouds/sky during my brief Yellowstone visit!

The bright white surfaces of the terraces create quite a challenge for the photographer. One can use fancy grads-- or as I did in this case, use HDR to capture the broad dynamic range. Five frames were used to create the HDR. I had four different tone-mapped hdr layers blended down onto the 0 EV frame. I used both Photomatix and Dynamic Photo HDR tone-mapping operators.

Skagit River Shores By Twilight by Fort Photo

Skagit River Shores By Twilight

Try Viewing Large on Black

This image was actually taken after it was more or less dark out. Two long exposures of 8 and 30 seconds helped bring out the rich colors seen here.

Notes: the images were manually combined in photoshop as layers with masks.

A Northern Shoveler Named Narcissus by Fort Photo

A Northern Shoveler Named Narcissus

Best dialed in Viewing Large on Black

Such a bizarre, yet beautiful duck. N. Shovelers have to be some of the more entertaining waterfowl we have in North America.

Grassious Bokehiliciousness by Fort Photo

Grassious Bokehiliciousness

Best Enjoyed Large on Black

HBW Folks! Smooth and silky... just how I like it, nom nom good. ;-)))

And since my dad asked what the heck is bokeh last time, for those not in the know it's the quality of the out of focus/blur areas of the image. Read about its deep artistic roots and more here, and here.
