Puffin'

I was attracted by the way this/these gentlemen carefully tended the engine and looked after their passengers. A genuine joy showed through.

There are quite a number of minature railway societies throught NZ. Many of the engines are no more than a metre long and pull trains on raised tracks.
Its one of those "rights of childhood" to ride on the train with your Grandparents, Parents and of course your own kids. Now my girls are teens they wonder if the rides are for their benifit. Oddly, they are yet to refuse a ride...."just to humor Dad" you understand.

There is nothing like the smell of burning coal and hot steam or the sound of a steam whistle. All very un-pc in our low footprint world.

'Atlantic type minature built around 1925. Began running on this track June 1974. Painted to represent locomotives typical of the classes used on the Wairarapa line in the days of steam." Masterton Miniature Train Society Inc, Masterton, New Zealand.
