I love that Chicago has a free Zoo! It may not be a match for the San Diego Zoo, but it also doesn't cost $40 per person or whatever they charge in SD these days. These lionesses were sunning themselves on Monday afternoon.

One of the things I really like about Chicago is how compact it is compared to the sprawl of Los Angeles. On this day, I took the subway from downtown near my conference hotel to our friend Maria's house, then we rode bikes across town to Lincoln Park by the lake, then we rode down the bikepath along the beach all the way back to our hotel, and then through downtown to get back to her house. Each bike ride was probably 30 minutes or so. You could not do this easily in Los Angeles. I hope L.A. mass transit improves. . . it makes Chicago feel so much more accessible and fun.
