she needed to unknot the ropes

Thomas Jefferson said,
“When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on.”
but Jean Toomer believed
“We learn the rope of life by untying its knots.”
Victor Hugo had his own "twist" ~
“The greatest blunders, like the thickest ropes, are often compounded of a multitude of strands. Take the rope apart, separate it into the small threads that compose it, and you can break them one by one. You think, "That is all there was!"
Henri Frederic Armiel said,
“A man must be able to cut a knot, for everything cannot be untied; he must know how to disengage what is essential from the detail in which it is enwrapped, for everything cannot be equally considered; in a word, he must be able to simplify his duties, his business and his life.”
Having been tied up in knots with so many limitations the past few months, and also experiencing painful knots in my muscles, I look at these ropes, ponder the quotations above and think I agree with Armiel that we must learn how to SIMPLIFY our lives!
There are times to "HANG ON" but there are also times to "LET LOOSE" . . . I'm leaving the dock and going for a sail! Wanna come?

I'm with Amiel too, we seem to gather so many
elements into our lives that we can't do
justice to any of them, we all need to
simplify our lives.
Henry David Thoreau said - Our lives are
frittered away by detail.... simplify,
simplify.

I was going for hang on , but you made me see
the other side. Knowing when to hang on and
when to let go - one of life's biggest
challenges.

Well of course, it should be fun! :)
I'm with you as well.. to simplify our lives
is the best solutions, but unfortunately we
often tend to do the opposite..

Such rich colours. It's funny how a rope can
constrain us, or help us climb to freedom.

hard to climb a little bit more :-)

Wow….you’ve covered all sides of this so well
with the quotes and your own thoughts. As I
read, a scripture verse came to mind….
“To every thing there is a season, and a
time to every purpose under the heaven: A
time to be born, and a time to die; a time to
plant, and a time to pluck up that which is
planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time
to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast
away stones, and a time to gather stones
together; a time to embrace, and a time to
refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a
time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to
cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of
war, and a time of peace.”
One of my favorite “toys” as a kid was a
hank of rope! The rope that is a curse to the
captive is a lifeline to the
climber…ultimately it’s not about the rope
but what we do with it that makes the
difference. Thanks for posting this
thought-provoking piece, dear friend.

Sometimes it takes a boing from a swinging
boom to bring us to our senses and stop
feeling we're just a dope on a rope 8-) Wish
I was going out with you onto that element
that sweeps all our hang-ups(oops! sorry),
into spindrift. cheers, Mike
