The water tower stands in the center of Wesel from 1886 on and was used until 1979

1886 wurde der 40 m hohe Wasserturm mitten in Wesels Innenstadt in Betrieb genommen. Die technische und architektonische Planung führte Prof. Otto Intze durch. Der Wasserturm war mit dem Alten Wasserwerk an der Lippe verbunden. Er diente als Wasserspeicher und sorgte für den nötigen Druck im Rohrnetz.
1923/24 wurde aus Kostengründen anstelle eines zweiten Wasserturms ein zweiter Behälter auf Stahlstützen unterhalb des ursprünglichen Behälters eingebaut.
1933/34 wurde der ursprünglich konische Turm mit einer zylindrischen Ummantelung versehen. so stand er bis zum 16. Februar 1945. Ab 1947 wurde er wieder aufgebaut und blieb bis 1979 in Betrieb.
Seit 1987 ist der Wasserturm technisches Denkmal, seit 1991 erden dort Ausstellungen durchgeführt.
