This news was on the Dutch radio today. So
sad for the people who have had lovely times
there. I think the pier was similar to the
one the Dutch have in Scheveningen.

I just saw pix of this on CNN, and I got a
better idea of how huge the place was, and
what a loss it is. Very sad.

Oh my....how awful? I wonder how it caught on
fire? Sad to lose such a treasure...but
surely they will build a new one to replace
it? Gorgeous shot of the pier you took in
'06.

Excellent shot, it was on the radio all day,
tragic. These piers are the heart of the
seasides I think, so much character, gone up
in smoke.
Even if they rebuild it, it won't be the
same, people close to Weston must be
devastated!

i live local to weston and work there
occasionally, i was driving to weston on the
day of the fire and saw the smoke from 10
miles away by the time i was in weston there
was virtually nothing left, the worst part
was that for all the rescue services efforts
there was nothing they could do due to the
soft sand they could only watch and damp down
the bits they could reach from the road. i
have photos of the pier somewhere on my page
of just a few weeks ago and it seems strange
that something that has always been there has
gone. Its not so devastating for the town as
it has other atractions but the pier will be
missed, until it is built again.
i think there has been no official report as
yet as to how it started but the general
opinion is that it was an electrical fault.
at least it happened when it was closed

How sad and such a loss. Wonderful that you
have a photo of it. Do you think they will
rebuild this marvelous piece of history.
