I like it, but I'm going to uni about 3
minutes away from the Spinnaker Tower, so I'm
naturally biased!

Kind of cool. Does it do anything other than
the weird dumb-ass tower thing? It looks
like the top three "floors" are
closed in. Someone's condo? ;)

I agree; the tower is goofy looking, but is
well composed in this shot.
This is Perfect!

For something so ugly, the overspend on this
was knuckle-chewingly large. Some bigwigs
got stuck in the lift at the grand opening
and had to be rescued by abseilers. Comedy.

Is this near the end of the motorway on a
roundabout? I'm just trying to get my
bearings on where this was taken.

Ah, but did you go up to the observation
decks at the top, Dave? Excellent views from
up there.
I quite like it - but then my council tax
isn't subsidising its construction.

it's a bit pointless, but no more so than
plenty of other similar structures, and
pretty enough in its own way. I quite like
the (new?) tower in the background though..

hahahah :D a fertility symbol maybe?
i think it looks a bit clunky myself :(
i am not sure what goes on up there.
Super-villain lair maybe?
thanks Neal
ha ha ha :D. yeh i think the idea of this
tower is good, but it looks os
over-engineered and clunky in the execution
like the structural engineers were paranoid
it would droop
hey Rog. This is slap-bang on top of
Portsmouth Harbour railway station. Right in
the centre of things. The view here is from
teh ferry to gosport looking directly back to
where we had come from .
no, we were too busy heading to the yacht in
Gosport. I dont mind this, but think it lacks
a lightness of touch that would have saved
such a massive structure from looking lumpen
and earthbound
I have a horrible suspicion that the one in
the background is supposed to look like a
ships funnel, and this spike is a sail. But
you are right, the tower in the background is
quite attractive.

If the floor level have been put in odd and
leave space in even number, it might give
better effect

Its the sort of building that would be more
at home in Dubai than Portsmouth.

Ahh, I think there is something similar in a
roundabout near a place called Horsea Island
on the edge of Portsmouth where I learned to
dive.

I happen to like it....
Some info:
The Spinnaker Tower is a recent addition to
Portsmouth's skyline. It can be found in the
recently redeveloped area known as Gunwharf
Quays. The millennium project to build the
Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quays was
completed in 2005. The tower is 552 ft tall
and features viewing decks at sea level, 325
ft, 341 ft and 357 ft.

It might be a bit of an empty statement
architecturally, but it's slightly improved
if rotated to a precise perpendicular. Try it
some time ;o)

cheeky arse! I think you will find that it
is! I was very careful to ensure that it was,
but the tapering of teh structure and teh
curve of the sail form creates an optical
illusion that it is leaning forward. you are
welcome to check. You could use the tower in
the background as a reference as being
vehemently vertical

Or you could just rotate it a bit.
